The trailer opens with the location mid shot followed by an extreme close up of Jake Gyllenhaal, which introduces the setting and main character.
The music is an underlying piano loop, overlapped with the speech from Jake Gyllenhaal which sets up the plot. The camera cuts to a night time shot of an accident, as the music becomes heavier, with guitar and a beat added to build the tension.
The atmosphere is made as it is set at night, and the mood seems dark and sinister. The dark lighting almost mirrors that of modern film noir, like seen in the matrix, with lots of chiaroscuro.
The target audience may be quite young, anywhere from 15 and up, as it contains scenes of violence, but also contains more modern music. Jake Gyllenhaal sells the film as he attracts a young female audience, not to say the trailer doesn't attract a male audience also.
