Suicide Squad Market research: film trailer

It is produced by the highly acclaimed Warner Bros, who produced movies including the eight Harry Potter films, The Dark Knight, Sherlock Holmes, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The key selling points of the trailer include the use of the Joker, formally played by Heath Ledger. He is the villain and evil mastermind used in The Dark Knight. Within the trailer there the use of pyrotechnics, further selling the thriller element of the film, with lots of spectacular long shots to present the locations and scenes. This also helps generate the genre to be a thriller, while the use revealing the villain makes the trailer more sinister. The target audience for this film could be from 15 to early 30’s, as it uses the classic batman villain, yet has a sophisticated plot with a dark and sinister feel. The format consists of 3 acts much like The Dark Knight. The first being a plot setup with a voiceover of the female lead role, which darkens the mood, as she discusses the dark plan of using 'bad guys' to do good things, incase anything goes wrong, so they can be blamed. This swiftly moves on to the next act, where it is a montage of the 'bad guys' with slow music, and a slower pace. The final act is then a montage of the action shots from the film. The camera angles are mostly close ups of the Joker and villains, as they are the selling point of the film. However there are some long shots of explosions, and locations to set the film up. The trailer ends on a sinster feeling close up of the Joker as he says: 'I'm not gunna kill ya... i'm just gunna hurt you. Really.... Really... Bad'. This gives the entire trailer a dark and uncomfortable feeling.
